| Rhino, I've been a member here for sometime and have not posted much mostly lately because of the things you speak of. There is no greater reward than learning on your own. I had an exchange with chillerz the other day where I said there is more than enough information here to learn the basics...and more without asking to be spoonfed. I do not know how to porogram but I have managed to bypass OCR on sites, find some backdoors etc. My question is how do I share this info. How does one share new found knowledge without giving to much away...to share with the people who appreciate. You and the other members like you have inspired and helped me so much. As I said I have not posted much but have read through almost every thread here and have a good sense who the real "community" is. You will be missed much :( |

Farewell to a good friend!
I guess I have alot of mixed feelings when it comes to the security community. On the one hand, I have been around long enough to see many older faces "retire" into the mainstream crowd. On the other, I too, at one point have decided that it was no longer worth the effort.
But all in all, I feel that there are some things that never change. The desire for knowledge and to share that knowlege is among them.
There will always be people that try to make a quick profit on the efforts of others. There will also be others who do not wish to learn yet want to reap the benefits.
I'm sure many of you probably won't recognize me, or my nick here. I definately don't post as often as I used to.
But enough about me, this post is about a dear friend who I wish would change his mind about leaving.
Rhino, I feel you have given back WAY more than you have taken to this community. As such, you will be missed. Sadly, as the older ones retire, the new ones come to take their places, forgetting (usually) the contributions which were made. Before long, they will not know those in the past had even existed.
Again, as you said, this is NOT a good thing.
Farewell, and I wholeheartedly wish you the best of luck in whatever endeavors you wish to undertake next.

What I just saw, then it hit me. At some point we all leave this path, some just stray a while but come back. And others just simply say enough is enough. As I have always said, we evolve throug others, I have met many during the years that drives me to be better, to go that extra mile. Nad I do hope to meet many more. But rest assured that when I hit that point that it isn`t fun any more I will leave. Rhino you did just that over thet years, made me want to do more and do it better. And belive me you will be missed but hardly forgotten :) |

The Funny thing about rhino is he goes out with a bang, this guy has jailed me, said many goofy things to me like read and learn, he never spoon fed, he is a guy that does want you to learn on your own and figure things out by yourself if u go wrong then ask and he would gladly put you on right track! The last thing he does before he leaves is ban my ip , so rosey you never change with your witty brit humor!
I hope you have problems locking your keys in your car again :)
But as you said this is a retirement not a good bye bye, so we will miss your activity around here keeping securibox up and going, but i feel u will always pop by when the worst happens to securibox and help out with a huge problem, i know this is in your blood because u have this unique personality that can not keep his nose out of it, you are a main man and always will be a main man in my opion!

When i started, about 6 years ago, give or take, being just a little one, I remember BIG names such as SilverSandStorm and Beda always popping infront of me in my searches for new knoledge. those 2 were always distant being from me, someone to look up to from afar. just as i have started SSS announced he is leaving, and suprisingly it did not affect me much, as he was a distant person and not a friend (no offense SSS :) ).
When i first came across you rhino, it was different, you were always kind to me and anyone else, always preachy (in the good sense of the word). You never saw yourself as one who is above others and always encouraged learning, always helped out where you were needed.
This is a time to take a break and say that I love SSS and Beda which i mentioned above, i just used you 2 as examples of people i appriciate, yet I have never talked to before, except Beda, who'm i've spoken to a few times. but this is a rhino thread :) so back to rhino it is.
You already caught the point i wanted to tell you about, the irony of you being a part of creating the one push of a button generation, but i must tell you that i hope, that just like me, other people who have been in touch with you, affected by you, others will try and push new comers to not push any buttons, but try and learn and learn.
and you are correct, this is what Securibox, deny, ice are all about, the core where you can start off your travels amongst the huge vast of information that lays around the BIG sexy internet. today, when google is much more of a tool to the masses then it was for masters such as yourself when it begun, it is even easier for everyone to learn.
today, people should encourage themselves into creating their own button pushing utilities, as easier to understand programming languages such as the OO java and c# and vb exist.
I hope to see you again here and there, and although icq barely is running on my computer, I just know that even if its every year or so i open it, i just know i'll see you there.
and if we're getting so emotional and such, why not use this goodbye thread of yours to encourage everyone to continue in your path, securibox's path (thanks jobbe) of knowledge.
And I'll see you around. ;) |

Well ferconicos and Newbie said almost everything - and now what am I supposed to say?
Your life, your choice. I fully understand your reasons however I can't agree with your conclusion. I was using about 5-6 another proxy programs before I start with Charon. It was like searching for path in the dark and Charon was light for me. It fits me well and I love it. I am truly thankful Rhinø.
Please let me hope you will be back one day.

I am sure you are receiving 100's of these, and expect it will be misted in the mass's, but I have to at least try to thank you for everything you have tought me, most you are unaware of but much there was. Certainly I have been little but a pain in your asss with my fumblings and posts longer than wordlists that made no sense but you and your work have been an inspiration and core source of the little I have learned. Your farewell could not have been better or more accurate, hopefully my lack of understanding was not percieved as a lack of passion or follow through. I have mostly you and others at Ice that teach those willing to get off there ass and figure something out, I did not always figure it out but I did get up off my ass and try, and thanks to you for a lot of that.. Anyways no need to offer good lucks or all the bests' as your mentality and view of life as well as contribution to the community will ensure your happiness in the future....
All the best my friend, you made me think, question, and answer, and of course the tools to do them with.....

Too bad you chose to leave us Rhino. I started to use charon only a few months ago. It wasn't love at first sight... but as I got familiar with the really useful features I wouldn't leave it for nothing anymore :)

As someone who has only been a "dabbler" in testing, Rhino's "All good things... " message is both inspiring and daunting... I do want to learn, & I guess that's a start.

I have been asking and got replys everytime in soldiers site more then 8 years

I never know rhino very well just his name and his proggies
but now I am feeling that I lost one of my best friend
I am felling this community slowly become invisible

You said last week that your retirement was coming, and I thank you for including me in the few that knew of this ahead of this big announcement.
You have done much for this community, at times I wondered how you had the drive to continue to work your way through the mud and mire to keep this place alive. But I am glad you did and hopefully there will be people here that will keep the torch lit into the future.
As you said there comes a time for us all when it is time to move on, after all the only thing that is constant is change and Daddy Diablo's craving for the next tight arse.
